the day after

OK so it's not like I'm going to run every day but this is the day after run no. 1 and the effects are: right knee a bit dodgy (fallout from IT Band syndrome and flat feet); left hip aching nothing new, not sure how to overcome, but I think it's just a matter of getting stronger
So nothing terrible. Apart from letting me off the hook to have a huge supper and wine and chocolate. Perhaps it's the last day for that and 2009 will start with me giving up over-indulgence.
How dull.

first time out

Well, not the first time ever, obviously, just the first time on the road to the 10k in May.

I had no excuse not to go - it wasn't raining, I borrowed an ipod, and I have several unsightly pounds of Christmas flab to lose which I aim to do by the middle of March.

It was perishing this morning - as in ice on windscreens etc. Happily I have new running gloves which were great once the blood returned to my fingertips. Which took a while as I have very slow blood.

There are things I could promise myself for motivation - like new running shoes, top, trousers etc - but the main thing is to lose weight - I know running's meant to be one of the best ways to shed pounds so I will stick with it. But I think I may also have to cut back on the Christmas cake and white wine...

But I have been on a run - hurrah

Distance: 4.15m (6.68km)
time: slow

Before even starting...

The reason for this blog is for my own good - as an incentive to keep going until sometime in May 2009 when I will be running the Bristol 10k race.
Not 'race' as in trying to win, just the taking part and trying to finish.
I have done the Bristol 1/2 marathon but that was back in 2006 when I was that much younger. I did finish which was very satisfying but it's kind of put me off doing another one simply cos once I knew I could finish then the next thing would be to improve on my time which would be difficult. (I thought) I did 2h 5m 25s which was perfectly respectable - but I would have to try and break the 2h mark. Not impossible of course but harder with each passing year.
So my plan is that I might even have another bash at the 1/2 marathon in 2009 - and the 10k is a step towards that.
But I haven't been running for 10 days - and then only for about 4 miles - and it nearly killed me.
It's going to be an uphill struggle.
Oh, and another pathetic excuse - my ipod is currently at the menders and I'm not expecting it back for 2 weeks. And I can't possibly run without distraction.
Or can I...?
