A new toy

So I've discovered a feature on 'mapmyrun' where you can create your own set of routes and they'll remember them and tell you how many calories you've burned and so on. I expect a lot of people have already discovered it, but it's new to me and I'm pleased

My run this morning (at 0625 I'll have you know - very early but a lovely morning with mist and sunshine and everything) was 6.26 miles which translates into 10.07km - hurrah - it means I know I can do the 10k a week on Sunday and it won't come as a nasty shock. It took me almost exactly an hour so I'm still doin 10 min miles or so which is ok by me. Not sure what it means for doing the 1/2 marathon in under 2 hours - might have to dig deeper for that...

So, yes, all's well in the world of running.

And another thing - yoga is brilliant - my hips weren't anything like as stiff as they have been recently and I've only had 2 sessions of yoga. Marvellous.

In 2 weeks...

...will be the end of the blog: 10km run, foil blanket discarded, blisters popped...

I'm a bit surprised how quickly it's come round, frankly, but I'm ready - I've been running 10k regularly which is ok; it's reassuring to know I can do it.

But I watched the London Marathon yesterday and felt really inspired - to enter the 1/2 marathon again. It's done, paid for and so on. All I have to do now is the training and a fair amount of weight loss and I'll be there.
Will I do it in under 2 hours? I think I could have when I did it last time, but whether that means I can do it this time is debatable. I'm aiming to finish, to lose weight and to get round in under 2hours 15 (But ideally I would like to get under my previous time of 2h 5m 25s - and to get under 2 hours would be amazing)

What have I let myself in for??

A new pair of shoes at the very least!!!

Early Morning

Well this morning I did something I haven't done for a while, namely going for a run before work. It helps when it's already light at 530 and you've been woken up by the cat hawking up furballs in the bedroom: I put out a copy of The Economist for him to aim for but he didn't seem to produce anything.
Too much information??

Anyway, there I was out with quite a few other runners and lots of slightly dazed looking people at bus stops, and I actually quite enjoyed it. Well, not enjoyed it exactly, but it hurt far less than I was expecting and I didn't even feel too knackered either. Perhaps the endorphins are kicking in.

So I was going to cut myself some slack and just go for the short route, then I thought, 'No. I'm going to do the Waitrose route' then as eveything seemed to be working ok I went for the full 'round the tower' experience. And went 6.23 miles.

Which is 10k

Which is what I will be running, with an audience, 2 weeks on Sunday.

I rule.

A first

For the very first time, I've run on consecutive days. Indeed, I know, I know, it's some kind of epiphany. Possibly.

I was in Whitstable over the weekend and had planned to run on Sunday, but, do you know what, I decided 'what the hell, I'm going to run on Saturday'. I went about 5 miles or so - along a flat path, with a gentle sea breeze blowing, it was lovely.

And then I couldn't think of a good reason not to run on Sunday as well - except it was horrible as I was too tired and it was chilly and very windy. Not horrible exactly, but not the nicest.

But hey, that was 2 runs on consecutive days. A first. Pat on the back for me, eh.

Happy Easter

6.03 miles, in the sunshine, not too bad generally. Feel quite achy and tired of course but that's cos I'm getting ancient.

Broke a nail somehow on the way round - annoying.

Was listening to Radio One: they've got the night time djs on during the day as it's a bank holiday and I guess it's cheaper and it might get people listening in the evenings. It was ok.

Am happy with new running trousers - quite airy and light which is good now it's getting warmer. I think I ought to get new trainers though as mine feel quite flat. That could be my feet.

so close...

...and yet so far

Nothing dramatic, just that last night's run was 4.98 miles. I guess I could round it up to 5. But that would be cheating.
No, the greater achievement is that I went for run after work - it was a lot harder than going in the morning but I did it. Well done me.

I went the opposite way round the normal route and I think I prefer it - you get most of the long uphill draggy bits out of the way sooner. Plus it's a change of scenery.
So can I keep this up and aim for running 3 times a week? No reason not to. Apart from the usual aches and pains (although this morning I feel considerably less achy than I have been known to the day after. We shall see)

Oh, and I got new trousers yesterday which were really nice to run in - and they're quite baggy so they disguise my huge arse.

Sometimes I surprise myself

I had to drag myself out for a run yesterday morning as I really didn't feel like going, but I can't keep putting it off as I hadn't run for a week. So I jogged away and just kept going along the usual route, did the extra bit on the downs and round the water tower (but didn't do the Sefton Park Road loop) and ended up running 6.69 miles. Far further than I thought I had.

Perhaps there is life in the old girl yet.

Perhaps
